POSITION TITLE: Technical Writer POSITION REPORTS TO: VP of IT & Data Management DEPARTMENT: Information Technology POSITION SUMMARY: The Technical Writer will play a critical role in supporting the Information Technology Team by creating, maintaining, and updating documentation that enables IT staff to work efficiently and effectively. This role involves translating technical and business concepts into clear, concise, and well-organized reference materials, knowledge articles, standards, and specifications. The ideal candidate has a solid grasp of IT conceptssuch as infrastructure, applications, and technical terminology—and excels at turning broad or unclear requests into polished, detailed documents that meet established quality standards. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of IT documentation, including user guides, knowledge base articles, technical standards, and internal processes. 2. Collaborate with IT staff and subject matter experts to understand complex business technical topics and transform them into clear, user-friendly materials. 3. Ability to drive results by tracking down information, asking the right questions, and completing assignments on time. 4. Edit and proofread technical content to ensure consistency, clarity, and adherence to company standards. 5. Establish, enforce, and refine documentation templates and style guidelines for the IT department. 6. Regularly review and update documentation to reflect changes in technology, procedures, and organizational needs. 7. Maintain version control of all documentation to ensure accurate and up-to-date references. 8. Provide input on knowledge-sharing strategies and support training initiatives by developing supplemental materials or instructional guides. 9. Perform additional writing or editing tasks as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position does not have direct reports. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Experience with document management systems, knowledge base platforms, and common office productivity tools. Evidence of strong writing and editing skills with a proven track record producing clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation. Ability to research and locate information to fill gaps and enhance existing or new documentation requests. A foundational understanding of IT infrastructure, general applications, and technical terminology. Familiarity with industry standards and frameworks (i.e. ISO, SOC, etc.) is highly preferred. Excellent organizational and project management skills to handle multiple documentation projects simultaneously. Strong communication skills to collaborate with IT team members and other stakeholders effectively. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or relative field, or equivalent professional work experience. 3+ years of experience as a technical writer, particularly within an IT or technology-focused environment, is highly desirable.
