About the role:


The Technical Architect is responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the execution of technical solutions within the Friedman Frontier ERP platform. This role requires hands-on expertise in IBM i (AS/400) environments, RPG and CL programming, database integration, and the customization of core ERP modules for complex discrete manufacturing clients.

What you'll Do:


  • Architect scalable technical solutions across Frontier ERP modules, including manufacturing, supply chain, and finance.
  • Lead custom development efforts using RPG, CL, SQL, DB2, and supporting middleware.
  • Design, document, and oversee the implementation of system interfaces, data migrations, and ERP customizations.
  • Collaborate with functional architects and business analysts to ensure technical alignment with business requirements.
  • Guide and mentor technical development teams, enforcing coding standards, code reviews, and best practices.
  • Develop reporting components and analytics using embedded SQL, DB2, and external reporting/integration tools.
  • Drive integration projects with third-party applications via APIs, web services, and XML-based interfaces.
  • Participate in project planning, risk mitigation, and performance tuning of ERP environments.
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and support live ERP deployments, ensuring security, robustness, and performance.

On your first day, we'll expect you to have:


  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in ERP technical architecture, with at least 3 years developing on IBM i/AS/400 systems.
  • Expert-level skills in RPG, CL, SQL, DB2, and experience developing on the Frontier ERP platform.
  • Proficiency with integration technologies (XML, APIs, web services) and experience with data migration tools.
  • Familiarity with web technologies (HTML, JavaScript) and modern software development practices.
  • Strong problem-solving, documentation, and project management abilities.
  • Experience mentoring developers and collaborating in cross-functional project teams.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, supply chain, and distribution domain processes is highly preferred.

Wed be super excited if you have:


  • Project management certification or experience with Agile ERP implementations.
  • Experience with cloud-hosted ERP transition projects.
  • Working knowledge of BI/reporting platforms such as Crystal Reports or IBM.
