Job Description

Job Purpose The Supervisor, Coding is responsible for the supervision activities and operations of the overall functions of the Coding department and staff. Duties and Responsibilities Organize, direct and monitor daily activities of Coding Associates as it relates to coding edits and denials Distribute workload to team Monitor and analyze productivity of the coding department employees, complete employee evaluations Field questions from Coding Associates and Auditors as well as clients Establish procedures, prepare and coordinate schedules, and expedite workflow Prepare reports and correspondence as needed Compile status and work-volume reports for management Interview, train, motivate and reward Coding department staff Manage disciplinary personnel issues and escalates accordingly Assist with the implementation of policies and procedures necessary to comply with federal, state, and third-party regulations which govern billing and collection activities for physician services Perform other related duties as assigned by management Use, protect and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards Understand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures at all times Limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned duties Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) or equivalent, two to four years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience CPC or CCS Coding certification required from AHIMA or AAPC 1-3 years’ experience as a Supervisor Possess thorough knowledge of multispecialty coding, including CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCs codes Related training/experience (preferably within the past five years) Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and Managed Care guidelines Strong leadership, independent thinking and decision-making skills Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well at all levels of the organization Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results oriented Excellent written and verbal communication skills required Gracious and welcoming personality for customer service interaction Working Conditions Occasional travel to client locations Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear. Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress. Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
