Role Overview

The Store Officer is responsible for efficiently managing project materials at site, ensuring timely receipt, safe storage, accurate documentation, and controlled issue of all construction materials, consumables, tools, and equipment as per L&T Hydrocarbon project standards and ISO/SAP procedures.

Key Responsibilities

1. Material Receipt & Inspection

• Receive project materials, consumables, and equipment in coordination with QA/QC, logistics, and procurement teams.
• Verify materials against Purchase Orders (PO), Delivery Challans, MTCs, and packing lists.
• Carry out visual inspection and quantity verification before acceptance.
• Raise Material Receipt Reports (MRR) and Goods Receipt Notes (GRN) in SAP / ERP.

2. Storage & Handling

• Ensure proper storage of materials as per category: piping, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, consumables, tools, and safety items.
• Maintain storage conditions to prevent corrosion, damage, or deterioration (particularly for hydrocarbon project materials like valves, fittings, gaskets, welding consumables, etc.).
• Implement FIFO/FEFO and bin card systems.
• Ensure proper preservation activities as per OEM / project requirements.

3. Material Issuance & Tracking

• Issue materials to construction teams as per Material Requisition (MR) or site issue voucher.
• Track daily issue of high-value items (valves, spools, instruments).
• Monitor returnable items such as tools and equipment.
• Maintain traceability of piping materials (heat numbers, batch numbers, codes).

4. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain up-to-date records in SAP / ERP and manual registers.
• Prepare daily and weekly stock reports, material status reports, and shortage lists.
• Keep documentation ready for audits (internal/external, ISO, client).
• Coordinate with QC for material traceability and documentation.

5. Inventory Management

• Perform periodic stock reconciliation and cycle counts.
• Identify slow-moving, fast-moving, and critical materials.
• Highlight shortages and work with procurement to expedite supply.
• Minimize excess inventory and prevent stock losses.

6. Compliance, Safety & Housekeeping

• Ensure adherence to L&T safety standards and site safety rules.
• Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free store areas.
• Ensure proper use of lifting equipment, racks, pallets, and fire-safety measures.

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of hydrocarbon project materials (piping, mechanical, E&I items).
• SAP / ERP proficiency (Material Management Module).
• Good documentation and record-keeping skills.
• Knowledge of preservation methods, traceability, and QA/QC requirements.
• Strong coordination skills with procurement, construction, logistics, and QA/QC teams.
• Familiarity with ISO & audit processes.

Qualification & Experience

• Diploma / B.Com / BBA / Engineering (Mechanical, E&I preferred).
• 510+ years experience in stores/materials management in EPC / Oil & Gas / Hydrocarbon projects
• Experience with SAP-MM is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of L&T documentation procedures is an added advantage.
