Stitching Trainer

Job Description

We are seeking a Stitching Trainer with strong expertise in tailoring and garment making, combined with the ability to teach slow learners / individuals with intellectual disability. The trainer will deliver a 6-month structured curriculum, guiding learners from basic stitching to advanced, market-ready products, with the goal of enabling their employability and self-reliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train learners with intellectual disabilities in step-by-step tailoring and stitching techniques.
  • Deliver a 6-month progressive training program covering:
  • Women’s, men’s, and children’s wear (Kurtis, tops, shirts, pants, frocks, etc.)
  • Bags & accessories (tote bags, laptop bags, wallets, pouches)
  • Household items (pillow covers, aprons, cushion covers, curtains)
  • Cloth jewelry & embroidery (fabric jewelry, appliqué, decorative stitches)
  • Upcycled & eco-friendly products (denim bags, saree repurposing, cloth shopping bags)
  • Break complex tasks into small, achievable steps for slow learners.
  • Use visual aids, repetition, and hands-on demonstration for effective learning.
  • Ensure each learner completes a portfolio collection (6–10 products) within 6 months.
  • Build learners’ confidence, motivation, and workplace readiness.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Diploma / ITI in Cutting & Tailoring, Fashion Designing, or Garment Technology
  • OR Certificate Course in Tailoring/Stitching with 3–5 years of practical experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s in Home Science / Textile & Fashion Designing / Apparel Technology
  • Certificate/Diploma in Special Education, Rehabilitation, or Inclusive Education (Intellectual Disability focus)

Skills & Experience

  • At least 3 years of professional stitching/tailoring experience
  • Minimum 1 year of training/teaching experience (special needs sector preferred)
  • Strong expertise in design, cutting, stitching, and finishing garments & products
  • Patience, empathy, and ability to motivate slow learners
  • Knowledge of market trends & product finishing standards
  • Basic computer literacy (for maintaining training records and portfolios)
  • Strong communication in local language (Malayalam) and simple English
