About the Role:

The Global Regional Expansion team manages the core of Remitlys product; a platform for transferring funds quickly and reliably, ensuring our customers always have a great experience, from send to receive. We ensure the movement of over 12 billion dollars a year through disbursement methods such as bank deposit, cash pickup, mobile wallets, and home delivery.

As a Staff Engineer at Remitly , reporting to the Director of Engineering , you will play a key role in shaping and scaling the Regional Expansion teams technical vision. You will leverage your expertise to build scalable, regionally tailored software solutions that enhance the remittance experience for our customers in newly expanding markets.

As a technical leader , you will drive the development of expansion programs that align with local customer and partner needs while ensuring global scalability. You will mentor engineers and senior technologists, modeling Remitlys cultural values and fostering an environment of technical excellence.

You will partner closely with Product Management, Engineering Management, and cross-functional teams , defining strategy through a customer-centric lens , balancing technical tradeoffs, system improvements, and long-term scalability . Your leadership will contribute to reducing technical debt, enhancing existing systems, and defining a best-in-class technical roadmap for regional expansion.

You Will:

Develop, test, and enhance large-scale software solutions
Provide technical leadership on projects, influencing and coaching a distributed team of engineers
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to Identify project requirements
Solve complex, open-ended problems where solutions are not immediately clear, often requiring collaboration.
Guide strategic programs and contribute to the technical direction of a product or area
Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code
Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of the codebase
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
Solve scaling issues and simplify complex problems

You Have:

8+ years of experience in software development
Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java, Python, C++)
Experience with cloud-based technologies (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
Experience with software development life cycles and methodologies (e.g. Agile, Scrum)
Experience leading team design reviews.
Experience with the legacy of technology decisions.
Know how to limit solutions that pose serious consequences or that add unnecessary complexity.
