Staff Nurse

Job Description:

Department: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Reports To: Nurse In-Charge / Nursing Supervisor / Head of Nursing
Location: Zirakpur, Punjab

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

• Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients in accordance with established nursing standards and ICU protocols.
• Monitor and assess vital signs, ventilators, infusion pumps, and other life-support equipment.
• Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and treatments as prescribed by the physician.
• Recognize and respond promptly to medical emergencies, such as cardiac or respiratory arrest.
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including daily assessments and care provided.

Clinical Duties:

• Assist physicians during procedures and medical rounds.
• Perform and interpret ECGs, ABG sampling, and other diagnostic tests.
• Manage central lines, arterial lines, and endotracheal tubes safely.
• Ensure infection control practices are followed at all times.
• Participate in patient handovers and interdisciplinary team meetings.

Communication & Coordination:

• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Provide emotional support to patients and families in stressful situations.
• Collaborate with respiratory therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals for holistic patient care.

Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain updated and accurate patient care documentation in compliance with hospital policies.
• Report any changes in patient condition promptly to the physician or nurse in charge.
• Ensure safe transfer and discharge of ICU patients when clinically appropriate.

Professional Development & Compliance:

• Participate in ongoing education and training programs in critical care nursing.
• Adhere to hospital policies, nursing ethics, and legal regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional standards at all times.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
• Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid nursing license.
• Minimum 1–2 years of experience in ICU or critical care (preferred)
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
• Rotational shifts (day/night/holiday duty).
• Exposure to critically ill patients and biohazardous materials.
• Physically demanding environment requiring standing for long periods.
