Sr. Backend Engineer

Reports to:

• Stage:

  Lean team of 15 total, 4 engineers. Completely Remote role.

• Growth:

  Bootstrapped and profitable to over 200 US-based brands. Crossed $1M ARR.

• Compensation:

  Rs. 30 LPA to Rs. 40 LPA (flexible for the right candidate)

• Team:

  You will be one of two backend engineers, and work directly with the Head of Engineering, Product Lead, and Founder.

• Work:

  You'll own core parts of Saral end-to-end, working across the stack without rigid handoffs, making decisions and shipping faster.

• Transitions to:

  Backend Lead role in 8 months to 1 year

Responsibilities

• Own Foundational Features:

  Ship core features from research, POC, scalable architecture, DB, backend, optional frontend, beta testing, to release.

• Shipping Improvements:

  Deliver smaller features and improvements every sprint.

• Review and Debug Code:

  Review PRs, debug production bugs, APIs, and queries.

• Improve Performance and Reliability:

  Pay off tech debt, optimize old code, and make SARAL more reliable.

• Optimizing Database Architecture & Queries:

  Clean up legacy tables and queries to improve performance.

• Improving Infrastructure:

  Play a key role in making infrastructure more reliable.

• Cost Optimization:

  Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities across the stack.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in backend engineering.
• Proven experience building and scaling complex architectures for high-growth companies.
• Strong skills in

  Typescript, MongoDB, Postgres, NodeJS

  .
• Hands-on experience with

  AWS

  (EC2, ECS, S3, Lambda, SQS).
• Experience with

  CI/CD and DevOps

  (beyond copy-paste pipelines).
• Clear understanding of memory management, security, event management, distributed systems.
• Experience with caching strategies and implementation.
• Strong SQL skills writing complex queries and optimizing performance.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs.
