Splicing Technician

Job Summary:

The Fiber Optic Splicer is responsible for splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic cables for telecom and broadband networks. The role includes working on field installations, maintenance, restoration, and ensuring high-quality network performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform fiber splicing and termination on various types of fiber optic cables (Single Mode/Multimode).
• Conduct OTDR, power meter, and light source testing to verify fiber performance.
• Troubleshoot fiber-related issues and perform restoration work during outages.
• Read, understand, and implement fiber network designs, splice diagrams, and schematics.
• Install and maintain fiber enclosures, splice trays, splitters, and patch panels.
• Perform fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, and fiber cable dressing.
• Document test results and maintain accurate splicing records.
• Ensure fiber integrity and compliance with telecom standards.
• Work in both underground and aerial fiber environments as required.
• Coordinate with field engineers, project managers, and NOC teams for issue resolution.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Fiber Splicer / Fiber Optic Technician.
• Strong knowledge of fiber cable types, color coding, and splicing techniques.
• Hands-on experience with fusion splicing machines (e.g., Fujikura, Sumitomo).
• Proficiency in using OTDR, power meters, VFL, and related test equipment.
• Ability to read network maps, fiber plans, and technical documents.
• Good understanding of FTTH/FTTX, backbone fiber, and distribution networks.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to work in field conditions and travel when required.
• Good physical fitness and ability to work outdoors or in confined spaces.
