Software Engineer - Java Development + Public Cloud

In this role as an Engineer in Cloud Engineering at American Express, you will play a crucial part in the development of observability telemetry architecture and systems across multiple clouds. Your responsibilities will include: - Working on software initiatives, rapid POCs, and analysis of software products for real-time multi Petabyte high throughput low latency applications - Supporting engineers and project managers in rapid development and deployment - Troubleshooting production issues by engaging support teams, formulating action plans, performing root cause analysis, and updating support Runbooks - Driving high-level and detailed design, conducting design reviews, and feature implementation - Participating actively in the design of new systems and redesign of existing systems to meet product requirements - Collaborating with cross-functional leaders to understand and define business principles, goals, and strategy - Performing Rapid POCs to validate ideas for large multi-cloud observability platform deployments Qualifications Required: - 1-3 years of experience - Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms - Good experience in Java with extensive knowledge of the JVM, garbage collectors, and JVM memory model - Knowledge in designing and implementing large-scale distributed data-intensive platforms with high resiliency, availability, and reliability - Experience in maintaining high throughput, low latency applications - Strong communication, presentation, leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, or related field required; Advanced Degree preferred Preferred Qualifications: - Knowledge of microservices architectures and service mesh technologies - Experience with configuring and administering EKS clusters in AWS - Understanding of observability concepts and troubleshooting - Familiarity with monitoring and logging solutions like CloudWatch, Infrastructure as code like Terraform and Helm - Knowledge of large-scale distributed systems and architecture (Linux/UNIX and Windows operating systems, networking, storage) in a cloud or traditional IT infrastructure environment - Understanding of cloud concepts (Storage/compute/network) - Experience with Git, GitHub, code build and deployment using GitHub actions, and Artifact Registry - Skills in developing and maintaining technical documentation, ADRs, and runbooks Please note that American Express offers benefits to support your holistic well-being, including competitive base salaries, bonus incentives, financial well-being support, comprehensive medical benefits, flexible working arrangements, parental leave policies, access to wellness centers, counseling support, and career development opportunities.,
