The Database Frameworks is part of the Cloud and Data foundations organization in Walmart. The Database Frameworks team s mission is to provide data access and data lifecycle management, with abstractions in a multi-cloud polyglot database ecosystem. By building intuitive, standards-based DB abstraction layers the team enables developers in the Walmart Global Tech organization to work efficiently across diverse database management systems deployed as PaaS and IaaS solutions . The mission is to abstract away platform-specific details, accelerate development, and ensure portability and scalability for Walmart s applications, supporting our multi-cloud strategy with best-of-breed datastore technology landscape.
What You ll Do
As a Software Engineer in the Cloud and Data Foundations organization in Walmart, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining high-quality software solutions in the database platform engineering domain. We are seeking engineers who combine engineering excellence in datastore fleet management, automating operational workflows with a collaborative mindset and a passion for customer-centric problem solving. You will work closely with cross-functional partners to deliver robust, scalable, and maintainable solutions for the cloud and data foundations organization that power one of the world s largest retail platform.
- Develop production-grade software for DB fleet management using Java adhering to best practices in code quality, performance, and maintainability.
- Design and implement automations for workflows which drive operational efficiency and reliability for the SQL and NoSQL database fleet in Walmart.
- Own and deliver new features for assigned modules, from initial low level design through deployment and ongoing support.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, and other stakeholders to contribute to design specifications and technical decisions.
- Provide peer mentorship by conducting code reviews, sharing knowledge, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Support customer application teams and partner platform teams during incident resolution, demonstrating high customer empathy and a commitment to operational excellence.
What You ll bring
- Bachelors/Master s Degree in Computer Science or related field in a of working experience in software development.
- 2.5-5 years of professional experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Java, with hands-on experience in designing, developing, and maintaining client side frameworks for database access-abstraction layers.
- Working knowledge of at least two datastore technologies, such as Cosmos DB , AzureSQL, Cassandra, or OpenSearch.
- Working knowledge of devops tools such as Jenkins, Ansible.

Minimum Qualifications...
Option 1: Bachelors degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years experience in software engineering or related area.
Option 2: 4 years experience in software engineering or related area.
