Smallworld Magik Developer

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain applications using Smallworld Magik and GE Smallworld Core modules.
• Customize and enhance Smallworld PNI, LNI or other industry-specific applications.
• Develop new functionalities, workflows, and automation tools within the Smallworld environment.
• Perform data modeling, schema design, version management, and network rule configuration.
• Integrate Smallworld GIS with external systems through Open API, GSS, FME, web services, or other middleware platforms.
• Troubleshoot application issues, debug Magik code, and optimize performance.
• Participate in requirement analysis, solution design, testing, and deployment activities.
• Work closely with product owners, architects, and business teams to deliver robust and scalable solutions.
• Support migration, upgrades, and system enhancements across environments.
• Prepare technical documentation, deployment procedures, and design specifications.

Required Skills & Experience

• 6+ years of hands-on experience in Smallworld GIS development using Magik programming language.
• Strong understanding of GE Smallworld Architecture, Version Managed Data Stores (VMDS), and SI databases.
• Experience with Smallworld PNI/LNI/Network Inventory or other industry-specific applications.
• Proficiency in Magik coding, debugging, performance tuning, and customization frameworks.
• Experience with GIS concepts, spatial data models, and network modeling.
• Hands-on experience with Smallworld CST, GSS, FME, Java/Python (good-to-have).
• Experience in REST/SOAP API integration and enterprise application workflows.
• Exposure to Agile development, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps tools (advantageous).
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.

Additional Preferred Skills

• Experience with IQGeo, 3-GIS, Esri ArcGIS, or other GIS platforms.
• Knowledge of utility domain workflows—Telecom, Gas, Electric, Water.
• Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) for deployment and integration.

The ideal candidate will have 6+ years of hands-on experience in Magik development, data modeling, application customization, and integrating Smallworld with enterprise systems. The role requires strong analytical skills, solution-oriented thinking, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality GIS solutions.
