Shift Manager - Quality -Raw Material

Role & responsibilities

**Job Purpose:**

To ensure smooth and efficient quality control of raw materials (iron ore, coal, dolomite, limestone, etc.) during shifts, by supervising sampling, testing, and inspection activities. Responsible for maintaining quality standards, timely reporting, and supporting production by ensuring the right grade and quality of raw materials are used.

**Key Responsibilities:**

* Supervise raw material sampling, preparation, and testing as per BIS/IS/Plant standards.

* Monitor shift-wise quality of incoming raw materials (Iron ore, coal, pellets, coke, limestone, dolomite, etc.) and ensure compliance with specifications.

* Coordinate with Raw Material Handling Plant (RMHP), Stores, and Production team for quality clearance.

* Ensure strict adherence to quality protocols during unloading, stacking, blending, and reclaiming of raw materials.

* Conduct shift inspections of material handling, stockyard, and conveyor belt systems to avoid contamination/mixing.

* Prepare shift-wise quality reports and escalate any deviation to seniors.

* Assist in root cause analysis of raw material quality deviations and suggest corrective actions.

* Ensure calibration and upkeep of lab equipment and instruments during the shift.

* Maintain documentation, test certificates, and inspection records for audits.

* Lead and guide quality inspectors and sampling staff during the shift.

* Ensure compliance with safety standards, housekeeping, and 5S practices in the laboratory and stockyard areas.

**Key Skills & Competencies:**

* Knowledge of raw material specifications for Sponge Iron/Steel Plant.

* Strong analytical and testing skills in coal, iron ore, fluxes, and other raw materials.

* Shift leadership and manpower handling.

* Good communication and reporting skills.

* Familiarity with ISO, BIS, and other quality management systems.

* Problem solving and coordination with cross-functional teams.

**Qualification & Experience:**

* B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry / Diploma or B.Tech in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, or related field.

* 58 years of experience in raw material quality control in a steel / sponge iron / ferro alloys industry.

* Hands-on experience in coal testing, iron ore analysis, and fluxes inspection.
