Key Attributes (Experience and Qualifications) - Work experience: 3 to 6 years
- Industry: CNC milling, grinding, cutting, EDM wire cutting experience preferred. Experience in machine setup for these tasks is preferred.
- Strong expertise in cutting force optimization and wafer surface finishing techniques.
- Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems).
- Strong understanding of cutting physics, wear dynamics, and cutting defect analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to drive continuous improvements.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Automation, Quality, and Maintenance).
- Excellent communication and leadership skills for leading process improvement projects.
Preference
- Experience in operations CNC machining, cutting, grinding plant.
- Experience working with a shift team of 25+ members.
Qualifications
- BE Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechatronics, or Manufacturing Engineering.
Summary - Wafering Division is divided into three sections Shaping, Sawing, and Wet & WINS.
- The Shaping Section: Cropping, Squaring, Grinding & Inspection.
- The Sawing Section: Gluing, Wire sawing, Wire guide roller (WGR).
- The Wet & WINS: Precleaning, Final Cleaning, Wafer inspection.
- In Shaping, monocrystalline ingot is cropped into segments and shaped into bricks. In Sawing, the bricks are cut into wafers. In Wet & WINS, the wafers are cleaned and inspected.
- The Shift Engineer (Wafering Operation) will manage equipment status, personnel, consumables, and the overall status of the site in one of the above subsections. Responsibilities include identifying and monitoring critical parameters, addressing factors that impact process control, yield, and throughput, providing direction and feedback during shift operations, scheduling employee shifts, assigning duties, training, and coaching new employees, and ensuring health and safety standards.
- Typical equipment handled: Croppers, Squarers, Grinders, Visual Inspection Machines, Gluing, Wire Sawing Machines, Cleaner, Wafering Inspection Machine, CNC Machines, etc.
- Expected to develop skills to lead all three sections individually over time.
Important Note
- As this is a start-up plant, flexibility to work beyond normal hours is expected, especially to resolve start-up issues and stabilize the section as per designed throughput.
- Strong leadership skills, ownership mindset, and team player attitude required. Must maintain cordial relations with the shop floor team, cross-functional teams, and stakeholders in a high workload start-up environment.
- Demonstrate passion in leading the start-up section with a focus on zero safety incidents.
- Lead from the front (hands-on knowledge) by working directly on the shop floor and operating equipment as needed.
- Ability to handle large teams and align them toward operational goals of the Ingot & Wafer Business.
- Undergo thorough emergency response training and be equipped to handle emergency situations (e.g., leakage, fire, explosion, gas release, earthquake) to ensure minimal or no damage to people, equipment, and environment.
Job Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)Safety
- Achieve zero LTC and zero tolerance for unsafe behavior.
- Demonstrate and lead strict adherence to safety standards and compliance on the shop floor.
- Ensure operations comply with Health, Safety, Environment, and Fire standards.
- Conduct periodic Gemba rounds to control unsafe acts and conditions.
- Lead audits, visits, and documentation.
Production
- Lead start-up of section with a focus on zero safety incidents, zero quality incidents, and zero equipment shutdowns.
- Develop a process/system-based culture in managing operations.
- Ensure output as per production plan.
- Achieve best inventory accuracy for the section (physical vs. system stock).
- Ensure 100% posting of batches and 100% material consumption through MES & ERP systems.
- Ensure 5S on the shop floor.
- Release periodic production reports as per governance systems.
- Participate in periodic plant review meetings.
- Lead and achieve benchmark OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
- Lead audits, visits, and documentation.
- Handover shift charge as per HOTO (Handover Takeover) guidelines. Plan and ensure 100% availability of raw material, packing material, and consumables for the next shift.
Quality
- All operations/tasks as per documented and approved procedures.
- Ensure input and output meet approved quality specifications.
- Eliminate sources of contamination through discipline and engineering/administrative controls.
- Ensure operations are performed within standard operating conditions and control limits.
- Provide engineering solutions via data analysis for quality assurance, complaint evaluation, process management, and troubleshooting.
Cost
- Eliminate losses and improve yield by maximizing equipment design capabilities.
Team / Manpower
- Develop team understanding of equipment engineering fundamentals.
- Coach and mentor manpower on operational nuances of the section.
Skills Required (Knowledge and Skills) - Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT, Teams, Outlook, etc.).
- Strong in implementing SOPs, risk assessments, standard operating conditions, and CTQ guidelines on the shop floor.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in Gujarati (preferred), English, and Hindi.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001.
- Added advantage: Minitab, Six Sigma, QC Tools, Kaizen, Statistical Process Control, TQM.
