Description
You develop an understanding of the strategic direction of our target products and key technology areas and you will contribute to the development of the Technology Strategy for those products, reconciling strategic input from multiple specialist areas. You have developed an understanding of the strategic direction of your specialist field inside and outside of GKN, and you will contribute to Technology Strategy within your specialist field, supporting generation of roadmaps associated with your specialist field. You will support robust forward planning of technical work. You will be responsible of and/or contribute to Technology Development Plans and Technology Business Cases related to your specialist field or product/technology area. You will demonstrate a commitment to innovation and technical quality in your specialist field - leading to high quality Technology Readiness Level gates, Notional Type Designs and/or Design Reviews. You will ensure all planning documentation in your responsibility are updated regularly and is accurate, and is delivered on time. You may also have schedule accountability for your project(s) You will support or lead any necessary hands on development test work and development trials that are required to meet your project and/or functional delivery objectives. You will be responsible for originating and issuing high quality and detailed technical documentation. You will coach colleagues and upcoming talent in your specialist field. Expect to supervise graduate students / Masters / PhD theses. You will drive maturity of technologies in your specialist field, and undertake technical problem solving in your specialist field, including support with operational issues from time to time. You should have, and you will continue to develop and maintain long-term ecosystem & academia relationships in your specialist field for the benefit of theprojects, aligned with the company strategy and direction from the Chief Technologist(s). You will contribute to new technology research project applications. You will ensure adherence to environmental health and safety (EHS) policies and procedures for your activities, and you will contribute to a proactive EHS culture in the wider team. You will contribute to the development of GKN as a Great Place to Work, aligned with the core principles - safe, innovative, open & honest, care & respect, and ownership. ou will be a Senior Research Engineer working as a product design leader in the technology projects. You will define the logic and technical activities needed to meet the targets, from early conceptual studies to TRL 3-6 from a product design perspective You will act as technical expert in the development of technologies and future product solutions, a generalist that is able to balance the input from the different disciplines in order to find the best compromise. Lead the integration of new technologies into the early product solutions with the goal of achieving design solutions that are well balanced Help setting the technical direction of the work and facilitate technical decisionmaking in the team. Help the team and project/team leader to plan and prioritize the technical tasks. Owner of the Technology Development Plan for the product solutions and/or technologies that are responsibility of the department Help Build concept book on feasible design solutions that would reflect customer expectations of future aero engines Contribute to systems models of GKN current and desired product offerings integrating with technologies and demonstrator project teams Contribute to building framework and structure for capturing design knowledge and author/support design practice development basis learnings from technology/product development Specify the needs and criteria for the validation of the technology integration on early product solutions. Give input to different development plans for process or design technologies, in terms of the requirements and maturity levels vs time, needed by the product solutions Identify new opportunities for application of new technologies Gather and present information to facilitate the decision making process at different levels of the organization. Focal point for concept developments and verification of requirements against expected or specific customer requirements on GKN product portfolio Define the technical requirements for future product solutions Responsible for the following documentation in Design Development Projects: Systems Requirement Definitions, Design Concept Creation, Usage of manufacturing processes to create novel design solutions, FMEA and Design Verifications Work with Team, Project Leader, other Technology Leads and stakeholders to identify dependencies, priorities, impediments, mitigation and resolution of issues Work with projects and team leader in identifying gearing opportunities for collaboration with external partners to grow technology footprint. 15+ years of design experience working in the development of technology and/or products for commercial jet engines or similar. Proven ability to mentor, guide and coach the team Experience leading multidisciplinary teams Ability of balancing the input from different engineering disciplines to reach the best compromise solutions Understanding and experience of the different steps of the Product development cycle and technology development for aero engines Working experience & strong technical Background in Design of aero engine components with all the relevant tools knowledge General engineering knowledge of solid mechanics, metallic materials, composites materials and manufacturing processes include additive. Experience in technology development, knowledge of TRL-scale and process. Experience of Systems Level Product Functions and Requirement Modelling Experience in Concept Developments and leading NPI design projects and knowledge of demonstrator/prototype development process. You have good communication skills, the ability to create effective networks and can take on a technical responsibility role (desired) strong product knowledge and experience of working across engine components
