Senior Network Operations Engineer

In this role, you will be responsible for the following: - Identifying actionable incidents using a monitoring system and applying strong analytical problem-solving skills to mitigate network events/incidents. You will also be conducting routine root cause analysis (RCA) and coordinating with support teams and vendors. - Joining major events/incidents calls to resolve network issues that impact Oracle customers/services, coordinating with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and providing RCA. - Handling fault identification and escalation, responding to faults on OCIs systems and networks, liaising with 3rd party suppliers, and seeing the escalation through to resolution. - Developing knowledge and skills in network and system administration, especially regarding OCIs own architecture and platforms. - Leveraging automation for work execution and developing scripts for routine tasks. - Executing network changes following the defined Oracle change management process. - Maintaining records of equipment failure and collaborating with engineers and suppliers as needed. - Contributing to team documentation such as runbooks, operations guides, and technical documentation. You will also assist in the onboarding of new team members. - Assisting in the implementation of short, medium, and long-term plans to achieve project objectives and regularly interacting with senior management or network leadership to ensure team objectives are met. - Working with the OCI Global Network Operations team, a world-class team supporting the network infrastructure environment globally. In this role, your responsibilities will include: - Completing network changes using existing procedures and tooling, and mentoring, onboarding, and training junior engineers. - Participating in operational rotations to provide break-fix support. - Providing on-call support services as needed, handling varied and complex job duties requiring independent judgment. - Collaborating closely with 3rd party suppliers to handle fault escalation and response on OCIs systems and networks. - Collaborating with the GNOC Shift Leads and management to ensure efficient completion of daily responsibilities. - Leading, contributing to, and participating in projects and tool development to enhance the overall effectiveness of the GNOC. - Collaborating with networking automation services, integrating support tooling, and frequently developing scripts to automate routine tasks. - Leading technical projects, improving runbooks and procedures, driving high visibility technical projects, and training new team members. Your technical qualifications should include: - Expert knowledge in networking protocols such as BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, TCP, IPv4, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, MPLS, TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and SSL. - Comprehensive experience in at least 3 of the following network technologies: Juniper, Cisco, Arista, InfiniBand, firewalls, switches, and circuit management. - Expert analytical skills and the ability to interpret data from various sources. - Cisco and Juniper certifications are desired. Soft skills and other desired experience: - Highly motivated and a self-starter with a Bachelor's degree preferred and at least 6-10 years of network-related experience. - Strong oral and written communication skills. - Excellent time management, organization, and problem-solving skills. - Comfortable dealing with a wide range of issues in a fast-paced environment. - Experience with Incident Response plans and strategies in large enterprise network infrastructure and cloud computing environments.
