Job Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with strong exposure to fabricated product development, supplier quality, audits, and inspections. The role requires hands-on experience in the automotive manufacturing environment, working closely with fabrication suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure robust design, manufacturability, and consistent product quality. Strong communication and supplier-facing skills are critical.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Development & Engineering

  • Support product development of fabricated components and assemblies (weldments, frames, brackets, housings).
  • Review and validate engineering drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and technical specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews, DFMEA / PFMEA, and DFM/DFA activities.
  • Ensure designs meet manufacturability, quality, and cost targets.

Supplier Quality & Audits

  • Conduct supplier quality audits (process, capability, and system audits).
  • Assess and develop fabrication suppliers in areas such as welding, machining, and surface treatments.
  • Lead supplier qualification, PPAP / APQP, and ongoing supplier performance improvement.
  • Work with suppliers on corrective actions, quality improvements, and risk mitigation.

Inspection & Quality Assurance

  • Define and support incoming inspection plans and quality control methods.
  • Review inspection reports, FAIRs, and dimensional layouts.
  • Support root cause analysis using structured problem-solving tools (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone).
  • Ensure compliance to drawings, specifications, and customer standards.

Cross-functional Coordination

  • Act as a technical interface between engineering, quality, sourcing, manufacturing, and suppliers.
  • Participate in customer and supplier technical discussions and reviews.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation, audit reports, and action plans.
  • Support global and multi-location supplier interactions.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in automotive fabrication
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes (cutting, bending, welding, fixturing)
  • Hands-on experience in supplier quality, audits, and inspections
  • Good understanding of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automotive Tier 1 / Tier 2 suppliers
  • Knowledge of welding standards (AWS / ISO)
  • Exposure to cost reduction, VA/VE initiatives
  • ISO / IATF 16949 auditor certification (preferred)

Travel:

Willingness to travel to supplier locations for audits and inspections (up to 30–40%)
