Job Description

A mechanical design engineer develops, designs, and tests mechanical systems, parts, and products from conception to manufacturing. Their work involves creating detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications, often using software like Solidworks, Creo, or Fusion 360. They conduct root cause analysis, collaborate with manufacturing teams, ensure designs meet project requirements, and consider factors like user experience, cost, reliability, and safety throughout the product lifecycle. Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualization and Design: Develop concepts, plans, and specifications for new mechanical products and systems.
  • CAD Modeling and Documentation: Create 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Analysis and Testing: Perform stress analysis, evaluate mechanical systems, and design testing plans to ensure functionality, durability, and reliability.
  • Material and Process Selection: Determine appropriate materials and production methods for designs.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with clients, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and marketing teams to bring a design to fruition.
  • Problem-Solving: Conduct root cause analysis to address design issues and implement solutions.
  • Product Lifecycle Management: Provide technical guidance and monitor the design process through to manufacturing and production.

Essential Skills and Tools

  • CAD Software: Proficiency with 3D modeling and design software like Solidworks, NX, Creo, and Fusion 360 is essential.
  • Engineering Principles: A strong understanding of mechanical design principles, thermodynamics, and material science.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct stress analysis, data analysis, and analytical assessments.
  • Communication: Clear communication skills to convey design intent to other engineers, manufacturing teams, and clients.
