Role & responsibilities

PLC/SCADA programming

Key Responsibilities

1. Advanced Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Field Instrument Management:

  Lead the diagnostic and repair of complex field instruments including mass flow meters, smart pressure/level transmitters, and control valves with digital positioners.

• Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS):

  Oversee the maintenance and testing of SIS and Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems, ensuring they meet specified Safety Integrity Levels (SIL).

• Root Cause Analysis (RCA):

  Conduct detailed analysis of instrument failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

2. PLC, Automation & Design

• System Design:

  Develop and review instrumentation deliverables, including

  P&IDs

  , loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, and cable schedules using

  AutoCAD

  .

• PLC/SCADA Programming:

  Design, modify, and optimize PLC logic (Ladder/FBD) and SCADA interfaces (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, or Schneider) for chemical process automation.

• Specification & Sizing:

  Perform technical sizing and selection of control valves, flow elements, and orifice plates.

3. Strategic Planning & Shutdowns

• Preventive Maintenance (PM):

  Develop and implement annual/monthly PM schedules using

  CMMS

  software to maximize equipment life and reliability.

• Shutdown Leadership:

  Plan and execute instrument-related activities for major plant shutdowns, including scope definition, manpower coordination, and "List of Jobs" preparation.

• Turnaround Strategy:

  Identify long-lead items and pre-stage "kits" (parts/tools) to minimize downtime during outages.

4. Inventory, Spares & ISO Compliance

• Spares Management:

  Manage a robust inventory of critical instrumentation spares (e.g., solenoid valves, intrinsically safe barriers, cards) and lead technical bid evaluations for procurement.

• ISO & Regulatory Jobs:

  Ensure all activities comply with

  ISO 9001/14001/45001

  standards, maintaining precise calibration records traceable to national standards.

• Safety Audits:

  Represent the department in safety inspections (PESO/explosive regulatory audits) and implement findings.

Technical Skills & Qualifications

• Education:

  B.E. / B.Tech in Instrumentation, Control, or Electronics Engineering.

• Experience:

  3-5 years in a chemical, fertilizer, or oil & gas plant.

• Certifications:

  Professional certification in PLC/SCADA or TUV functional safety is highly preferred.

• Software:

  Proficiency in

  AutoCAD

  ,

  SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation)

  , or similar design tools.

• Safety Standards:

  Deep knowledge of

  ISA

  ,

  IEC 60079

  (hazardous areas), and explosive handling protocols.
