Job Description

As a Senior Fitter for the Sponge Iron Plant, your role will involve overseeing the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment and machinery. You will need hands-on expertise in handling heavy mechanical systems, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring smooth plant operations with minimal downtime. Additionally, you will guide junior fitters, maintain safety standards, and coordinate with the maintenance and operations teams. Key Responsibilities: - Maintenance & Repair: - Conduct preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment. - Inspect, diagnose, and repair machinery such as kilns, conveyors, blowers, fans, pumps, gearboxes, and rotary equipment. - Replace defective parts, bearings, seals, couplings, and other machine components. - Ensure proper alignment, balancing, and lubrication of machinery. - Installation & Commissioning: - Assist in the installation of new equipment and plant machinery. - Read and interpret engineering drawings and mechanical diagrams. - Assemble, fit, and align components as per design specifications. - Support commissioning of equipment and ensure a smooth handover to operations. - Team Supervision & Guidance: - Lead and guide junior fitters and helpers in maintenance and repair activities. - Allocate work, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to timelines. - Provide training on safe working practices and the use of tools/equipment. - Safety & Compliance: - Adhere to all plant safety procedures and ensure safe working conditions. - Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. - Report any unsafe conditions, near misses, or accidents to the supervisor. - Record Keeping & Reporting: - Maintain maintenance logs, records of repairs, and spare parts usage. - Report breakdowns, maintenance progress, and completion to the maintenance head. - Provide inputs for maintenance planning and spare parts inventory. Qualifications & Experience: - Education: ITI/Diploma in Mechanical Fitter or related trade. - Experience: Minimum 10-12 years of experience in a Sponge Iron Plant / Steel Plant / Heavy Mechanical Industry. - Prior experience in handling rotary kilns, conveyors, and heavy mechanical equipment is essential. In addition to the above, you will need strong knowledge of mechanical fitting, repair, and assembly, hands-on experience with rotary equipment, kilns, conveyors, blowers, pumps, etc. You should be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and mechanical layouts, have knowledge of welding, gas cutting, and the use of mechanical tools, possess good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, be able to lead a small team, work under pressure, and be aware of safety standards in heavy industry operations. Please note that the salary will be as per industry standards, with overtime, allowances, and benefits as per company policy.
