Role

The Senior Data Engineer plays a lead role in designing, building, optimizing, and governing data pipelines and architectures that power analytics, visualization, and data science initiatives. This position provides technical leadership, ensures data quality and scalability, and mentors data engineers to deliver robust and future-proof data solutions that align with organizational goals. The Senior Data Engineer bridges hands-on engineering with strategic design, ensuring the data ecosystem is scalable, reliable, and ready for future business needs. This role has a direct impact on analytics velocity, enabling visualization teams, data scientists, and business functions to work with clean, timely, and well-modeled data.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor s or Master s in Computer Science, Software/Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field

Minimum Experience

10 12 years of experience in data engineering, including 3 5 years in senior or lead roles

Tasks

Lead end-to-end design and development of enterprise-grade data pipelines and ingestion frameworks.
Develop optimized data models and schemas for analytics, visualization, and advanced use cases. Implement best practices for version control, CI/CD, and code modularity for data workflows. Mentor and review work of data engineers to ensure quality, scalability, and alignment with architecture standards. Optimize and automate data integration processes to improve efficiency and reduce latency. Collaborate with data governance teams to enforce metadata management, lineage tracking, and data quality rules. Partner with cloud infrastructure teams to ensure cost-effective scaling of data platforms. Troubleshoot complex data issues, provide root-cause analysis, and implement preventive measures. Stay updated with emerging technologies (e.g., streaming platforms, data mesh, lakehouse architectures). Participate in architecture councils and contribute to enterprise data strategy discussions.

Key Accountabilities

Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performance data architectures and pipelines.
Act as a technical mentor to data engineers, guiding them in best practices and modern engineering techniques. Collaborate with business and analytics teams to translate requirements into efficient data models and solutions. Optimize ETL/ELT processes and infrastructure for performance, cost, and scalability. Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and quality standards. Evaluate, pilot, and implement new tools and frameworks for data engineering. Troubleshoot complex data integration and processing issues.

Job-Specific Skills

Expert in SQL/NoSQL databases, data modeling, ETL/ELT design. Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala for data processing. Experience with modern data platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP). Strong skills in data warehouse/lakehouse design and optimization. Deep understanding of data governance, security, and lineage. CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Kubernetes). Ability to lead technically and mentor junior engineers.

Special Certification or Membership:

Cloud platform certifications (Azure Data Engineer, AWS Big Data, GCP Data Engineer), relevant vendor certifications preferred.
