Duties & Responsibilities of Senior AutoCAD Planner
(Assistant to Planning HOD)
a. Technical Planning Execution & Department Support
- Act as the primary technical support to the Planning HOD in executing departmental planning strategy.
• Translate planning objectives, client requirements, and project goals into detailed AutoCAD layouts and planning deliverables. • Lead day-to-day planning operations and ensure smooth functioning of the planning team in the absence of the Planning HOD. • Support the HOD in implementing department standards, workflows, templates, and planning procedures. • Assist in resolving technical issues, layout conflicts, and coordination challenges across projects. • Ensure planning outputs are aligned with approved strategies, engineering standards, and project schedules. • Escalate critical risks, technical deviations, or resource issues to the Planning HOD proactively.
b. AutoCAD Layout Development & Technical Detailing
- Prepare, review, and finalize conceptual, preliminary, and detailed AutoCAD layouts for assigned projects.
• Develop machine layouts, foundation zoning plans, equipment positioning, and space utilization drawings. • Ensure accuracy of dimensions, levels, tolerances, alignment, and load-related planning considerations. • Coordinate integration of planning layouts with civil, structural, architectural, and MEP drawings. • Prepare and maintain drawing layers, blocks, symbols, legends, and standard details as per department norms. • Support the HOD in developing and updating AutoCAD libraries, standard drawings, and templates. • Assist in preparation of 3D views, sectional details, equipment clearances, and visual presentations when required. • Prepare as-built drawings based on site feedback and execution records.
c. Project Planning, Scheduling & Progress Monitoring
- Prepare detailed planning schedules, drawing delivery programs, and milestone tracking sheets for projects.
• Support the Planning HOD in developing baseline schedules and monitoring planning progress. • Track drawing submissions, revisions, approvals, and rework cycles to ensure adherence to timelines. • Identify planning delays or clashes and propose corrective actions or revised sequences. • Coordinate planning deliverables with procurement timelines, foundation execution, and site activities. • Assist in preparation of weekly and monthly planning MIS reports for internal and client review. • Maintain accurate planning status dashboards and progress trackers for multiple projects.
d. Client Coordination & Technical Meetings Support
- Participate in client meetings, layout discussions, and technical review sessions as delegated by the Planning HOD.
• Prepare drawings, presentations, and technical clarifications required for client approvals. • Incorporate client comments, change requests, and operational inputs into revised layouts. • Support the HOD in ensuring all client feedback is documented, tracked, and properly implemented. • Handle routine client coordination related to drawings, revisions, and planning clarifications.
e. Site Coordination & Field-Level Technical Support
- Coordinate with site engineers and execution teams to clarify layout details and planning intent.
• Review site measurements, field constraints, and implementation feedback for drawing updates. • Assist in resolving site-level discrepancies between drawings and actual conditions. • Validate layout marking plans and foundation positioning in coordination with site teams. • Support preparation and verification of “as-built” drawings reflecting executed conditions. • Ensure all site-driven changes are properly approved and documented before incorporation.
f. Team Coordination & Junior Planner Supervision
- Guide Assistant Planners and CAD Operators in preparing accurate and standard-compliant drawings.
• Allocate tasks to junior planners based on workload, complexity, and deadlines. • Review drawings prepared by junior staff for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards. • Provide technical mentoring and on-the-job training to improve team skill levels. • Support the Planning HOD in enforcing discipline, quality, and consistency within the team. • Act as the first point of escalation for technical queries from junior planners.
g. Documentation Control, MIS & Quality Compliance
- Maintain drawing registers, revision histories, approval logs, and transmittal records.
• Ensure proper file naming conventions, folder structures, and version control are followed. • Assist in preparation of planning MIS, progress summaries, and audit documentation. • Ensure all drawings are plotted, issued, and archived as per department procedures. • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate planning documentation.
h. Coordination with Planning HOD & Cross-Functional Teams
- Act as a communication bridge between the Planning HOD and the planning execution team.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, design, procurement, and project teams for planning inputs. • Provide technical planning inputs during tendering, estimation, or early project stages when required. • Support management reporting by providing accurate planning data and technical insights.
i. Quality Assurance & Process Improvement Support
