Safety Officer

Role & responsibilities

• Safety Program Leadership:

  Lead and direct the overall safety strategy and initiatives across the organization, aligning with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.

• Policy Development and Compliance:

  Develop, review, and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and international safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).

• Risk Management:

  Identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards through proactive safety audits, risk assessments, and the development of safety improvement plans.

• Training and Development:

  Oversee the creation and implementation of safety training programs for employees, managers, and leadership to ensure proper understanding of safety protocols and emergency procedures.

• Incident Reporting and Investigation:

  Lead investigations into workplace accidents or near-miss incidents to determine causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

• Safety Culture Development:

  Champion a safety-first culture across all departments, fostering employee engagement in safety programs and encouraging the reporting of safety concerns.

• Regulatory Liaison:

  Maintain relationships with regulatory bodies and stay updated on changes to health, safety, and environmental laws and regulations.

• Budget and Resource Management:

  Manage the safety department's budget, ensuring that safety programs are adequately funded and resources are allocated appropriately.

• Data Analysis and Reporting:

  Analyze safety data, generate reports, and provide recommendations to senior leadership on safety performance and areas for improvement.

• Emergency Preparedness:

  Develop and oversee emergency response plans, conduct drills, and ensure that employees are prepared for emergencies.

• Collaboration:

  Work closely with senior leadership, department heads, HR, and other stakeholders to ensure safety priorities are integrated into business operations.
