Job Purpose

The Plant Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring end-to-end safety management at the plant, including statutory compliance, hazard control, employee and contractor safety, and development of a strong safety culture across all plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and enforce plant-level safety policies, procedures, and SOPs in compliance with statutory and company requirements.
• Ensure full compliance with the Factories Act, State Factory Rules, Boilers Act, and other relevant safety legislations.
• Conduct regular plant safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments for production areas, utilities, maintenance, material handling, and contractor activities.
• Identify unsafe acts and conditions; drive corrective and preventive actions with plant teams.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action plans.
• Manage safety of contractors, including safety induction, permit-to-work systems, and compliance monitoring.
• Plan and conduct safety trainings, toolbox talks, and awareness programs for plant employees and contract workforce.
• Ensure availability, usage, and compliance of PPE across the plant.
• Coordinate with government inspectors, auditors, and external agencies during statutory inspections and audits.
• Maintain all statutory registers, safety records, audit reports, and MIS related to plant safety performance.
• Lead emergency preparedness, mock drills, fire safety systems, and disaster management plans.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to plant safety and EHS performance.

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of plant safety systems, hazard identification, and risk mitigation.
• In-depth knowledge of statutory compliance for manufacturing plants.
• Good communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Hands-on, proactive, and disciplined approach to safety management.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Engineering / Science (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical preferred).
• Diploma or Degree in Industrial Safety (mandatory).
• NEBOSH / IOSH or equivalent certification will be an added advantage.

Experience

• 7-10 years of experience as a Safety Officer / Safety Manager in a

  manufacturing or industrial plant

• Prior experience handling plant audits and government inspections is essential.
