a) Title Due Diligence: Scrutinize and approve title search reports for properties across South India (e.g., Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana), ensuring the enforceability and security of mortgage collateral.
b) Legal Compliance & Documentation: Draft, review, and standardize all mortgage loan, security, and non-standard documents in line with RBI and state-specific regulations for home loans, loan against property (LAP), and affordable housing finance.
c) Policy & Process Management: Develop and implement legal policies and procedures for mortgage operations, legal audits, and risk management practices for the southern region.
d) Legal Advisory: Advise business teams on legal matters pertaining to acceptance of property titles, enforcement of securities, and highlight risks and mitigation strategies.
e) Stakeholder & Counsel Management: Liaise with external legal counsels and regional authorities, manage a team of internal/external lawyers, and coordinate with cross-functional business units.
f) Governance & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to RBI and other regulatory requirements for mortgage products in southern states; manage legal audits and provide updates to management.
g) Training & Team Management: Mentor and guide the regional legal team, provide training on property laws, regulatory updates, and ensure high productivity
h) Regional Expertise: In-depth understanding of local statutes, real estate practices and ability to handle regional nuances is preferred.
Bachelors or Master’s degree in Law (LLB/LLM) from a recognized university.
7-12+ years of relevant experience in corporate legal, specifically in mortgage or housing finance with focus on the southern states.
Direct experience with title due diligence, mortgage documentation, loan recoveries, and legal processes in banking/NBFC/Lending organizations.
Strong knowledge of regional languages (at least two South Indian languages in addition to English and Hindi is advantageous).
Proficient in SARFAESI, IBC, RERA, real estate laws, and RBI housing finance guidelines.
Team leadership, contract drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
