Job Description

Role & responsibilities

A quality engineer for structures is responsible for ensuring the structural integrity and safety of infrastructure projects. They develop and implement quality control systems, monitor construction processes, and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and design specifications. Their work is crucial for preventing structural failures and maintaining public safety.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Monitoring Construction Processes:

    - Observing and documenting the progress of construction work to ensure adherence to approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  2. Conducting Inspections:

    - Performing visual and/or dimensional inspections of structural components, materials, and workmanship to identify defects or non-conformities.
  3. Documenting and Reporting :

    - Maintaining records of inspections, test results, and quality control activities. Preparing reports on quality performance and any identified issues.
  4. Investigating Issues: -

    Analyzing the root causes of quality problems and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  5. Ensuring Compliance:

    - Verifying that all structural work complies with relevant building codes, standards, and regulations.
  6. Collaborating with Stakeholders:

    - Working with project managers, contractors, and other engineers to resolve quality issues and improve overall project quality.
  7. Providing Training:

    - Educating construction personnel on quality standards, inspection procedures, and best practices.

Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Engineering Degree:

    A bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering is typically required.
  2. Quality Management Knowledge:

    Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and quality control principles.
  3. Technical Skills:

    Proficiency in structural analysis, design, and construction practices.
  4. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

    Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve quality issues.
  5. Communication Skills:

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting, documentation, and collaboration.
  6. Attention to detail:

    Meticulousness in reviewing drawings, inspecting work, and documenting findings.
  7. Experience:

    Prior experience in structural engineering, construction quality control or a related field is often preferred.
  8. Proficiency in Software:

    Experience with CAD and structural analysis software is often expected.
  9. Physical Abilities:

    Ability to perform on-site inspections, which may involve climbing, walking, and working in various weather conditions.
