Job Description

  • Position: Line Inspector – Machine Shop (Quality Engineer)

Reports To: Quality Manager / Machine Shop Head

Purpose:

To ensure the quality and accuracy of machined components by conducting first piece approvals, in-process inspections, and final checks during day and night shifts. The Line Inspector plays a critical role in maintaining product standards, preventing defects, and supporting smooth machining operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform 1st piece inspection and approval for all machined components before mass production begins.
  • Conduct in-process inspection as per control plan, drawing, and customer requirements.
  • Verify dimensions using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, thread gauges, etc.
  • Ensure adherence to machining parameters and quality standards.
  • Identify non-conformities, document deviations, and coordinate with Machine Shop, QA, and Production teams for corrective actions.
  • Maintain inspection records, reports, and 1st piece approval documentation.
  • Support quality audits, internal checks, and compliance with ISO / IATF requirements.
  • Monitor component quality during day and night shifts, ensuring continuous quality control.
  • Ensure proper handling, calibration, and upkeep of measuring instruments.
  • Escalate quality issues promptly to supervisors to avoid delays or rework.

Position Summary:

The Line Inspector – Machine Shop (Quality Engineer) ensures that each component meets precision and quality requirements before production continues. This position is key to maintaining zero-defect manufacturing and smooth machining operations. The role requires strong inspection skills, accuracy, discipline, and the ability to work in both day and night shifts with responsibility for 1st piece approval and in-process quality control.

Skills and Key Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of machining processes and engineering drawings
  • Proficiency in measuring instruments and metrology
  • Good understanding of ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 quality systems
  • Ability to identify defects and suggest corrective actions
  • Strong observational and analytical skills
  • Good communication and coordination with production teams
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality compliance

Experience Requirements:

  • 2–5 years of experience in Machine Shop inspection or similar quality role
  • Experience in CNC/VMC/turning components inspection preferred
  • Familiarity with precision components manufacturing

Essential Physical and Cognitive Job Functions:

  • Ability to work in day and night shifts as assigned
  • Ability to stand for long periods during inspections
  • Strong cognitive skills to interpret technical drawings and inspection requirements
  • High accuracy in measurements and documentation
  • Ability to handle fast-paced production environments
  • Good eyesight and manual handling capability

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From ₹35,000.00 per month
