Purchase Manager

Position: Purchase Manager

Location: Kolkata / Patna

Experience: 3-7 years

Key Responsibilities

1. Raw Material Procurement

• Responsible for purchasing

  steel raw materials

  such as coils, sheets, billets, ingots, TMT bars, scrap, ferro alloys, and consumables.
• Identify reliable suppliers and maintain competitive pricing.
• Ensure materials meet the required technical specifications and quality standards.

2. Vendor Management

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with steel mills, stockists, traders, and scrap suppliers.
• Conduct supplier evaluations, audits, and performance reviews.
• Identify and onboard new vendors to diversify supply sources.

3. Cost Negotiation & Contracting

• Negotiate prices, credit terms, transportation, and annual supply contracts.
• Achieve cost reduction through alternative sourcing and strategic negotiations.
• Prepare comparative statements for management approval.

4. Purchase Planning & Inventory Control

• Collaborate with production and planning teams to forecast raw material requirements.
• Maintain optimal inventory levels to avoid stock-out or overstock situations.
• Monitor GRN, stock reports, and consumption trends.

5. Market & Price Analysis

• Track daily steel market rates (billet, scrap, coil, ingot, TMT prices).
• Analyze price fluctuations and plan procurement accordingly.
• Maintain strong understanding of commodity markets.

6. Documentation & Compliance

• Manage purchase orders, agreements, contracts, and vendor documentation.
• Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and statutory requirements.
• Coordinate with finance for invoice processing and payment follow-ups.

7. Logistics & Delivery Coordination

• Arrange transportation, freight negotiation, and logistics planning.
• Follow up with suppliers for timely delivery of materials.
• Resolve delivery issues, shortages, and quality discrepancies.

8. Reporting & MIS

• Prepare regular reports on purchases, vendor performance, cost savings, and inventory.
• Present analysis to management for decision-making.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of

• Good understanding of supply chain, inventory, and logistics operations..
• Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Qualification

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Commerce / Supply Chain / Management
• MBA in Supply Chain (preferred)
• Experience in steel / metal / manufacturing industry is mandatory
