Role Overview

Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Procurement

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies for construction materials, equipment, and services.
  • Source cement, steel, aggregates, tiles, electrical & plumbing materials, and other project essentials.
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop a reliable vendor base across regions.

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers.
  • Ensure favorable terms related to price, delivery schedule, quality, and payment.
  • Monitor vendor performance with regular reviews and site feedback.

Cost & Budget Control

  • Prepare and manage procurement budgets for multiple projects.
  • Achieve cost savings through bulk purchasing, rate contracts, and alternate sourcing.
  • Analyze price trends and ensure cost-effective procurement without compromising quality.

Coordination with Project Teams

  • Work closely with site engineers, project managers, and quality teams to ensure technical specifications are met.
  • Resolve material shortages, delivery delays, or quality concerns.
  • Schedule material deliveries to avoid project delays.

Compliance & Process Management

  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, statutory norms, and contractual obligations.
  • Maintain all procurement records, approvals, and documentation for audits.
  • Use ERP/project management tools to track procurement progress.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and train the procurement team.
  • Promote efficient procurement practices and continuous improvement.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of civil construction materials and vendor markets.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Expertise in contract management and tendering.
  • Ability to manage procurement for multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and MS Office tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 12–15 years of procurement experience in the civil/construction industry, with at least 5 years in a senior managerial role.
  • Professional certifications in procurement or contract management are an advantage.

  • Cost savings achieved vs. budget.
  • On-time delivery of materials to project sites.
  • Material quality compliance rate.
  • Procurement cycle time reduction.
  • Vendor performance rating.
