Professor of Journalism

Poornima University is seeking applications for a faculty position in Journalism & Mass Communication. As a successful candidate, you will be expected to showcase expertise in teaching, research, and service in various areas including journalism, media studies, communication theory, digital media, and public relations. This role focuses on preparing students to thrive in the ever-changing media landscape by providing them with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and ethical understanding. In terms of teaching responsibilities, you will be required to develop and deliver graduate courses in journalism, mass communication, media ethics, digital journalism, multimedia storytelling, or related subjects. Emphasizing on innovative and experiential teaching methods, you will utilize emerging technologies and digital tools to enhance the learning experience. Additionally, you will guide students through hands-on activities like newsroom simulations, media production, and content creation while offering academic advising and mentorship to aid in their career development and research pursuits. Regarding research duties, you will conduct high-quality research in journalism, media studies, communication, or other emerging mass communication areas. This will involve publishing in peer-reviewed journals, participating in academic conferences, and contributing towards advancing scholarship in the field. Seeking interdisciplinary collaborations both within and outside the university and pursuing external funding for research and creative projects will also be part of your responsibilities. In terms of service, you will contribute to various departmental, college, and university committees. Your role will also involve assisting in curriculum development and accreditation processes. Building partnerships with media organizations, NGOs, and community groups to enrich experiential learning opportunities will be crucial. Additionally, you will actively participate in student recruitment, retention efforts, and alumni engagement activities. The ideal candidate should possess a Doctoral/Master's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, or a closely related field. Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level with evidence of teaching effectiveness, a strong research track record, and proficiency in digital and multimedia journalism tools and platforms are essential qualifications. Preferred qualifications include industry experience in journalism, broadcasting, public relations, or digital media, expertise in data journalism, media analytics, or emerging communication technologies, experience in grantsmanship and securing research funding, and a proven ability to engage diverse student populations and work collaboratively.,
