Production Engineer (Team Lead) Plant & Production

Role Description

Production Engineer (Team Lead)

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in plant operations, strong team leadership abilities, and a proactive mindset toward continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise production activities across 6 lines and multiple shifts to ensure daily targets are met.
  • Execute the daily production plan in alignment with overall manufacturing schedules.
  • Ensure strict adherence to defined quality standards, process parameters, and safety protocols on the shop floor.
  • Monitor and manage production resources, including manpower deployment, shift schedules, raw material availability, and machine readiness.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues in real-time and coordinate with maintenance, quality, and stores teams to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Guide, train, and motivate the production team to achieve performance goals and foster a culture of accountability and ownership.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of production records, shift reports, rejection analysis, and downtime data.
  • Collaborate with planning, engineering, and quality functions to drive process improvements and optimize productivity.
  • Support implementation of lean manufacturing practices, 5S, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct Poka-Yoke (error-proofing) checks in every shift.
  • Deploy operators based on skill levels and ensure optimum utilization.
  • Implement operator training and multi-skilling programs.
  • Maintain 5S standards on the shopfloor (Gemba).
  • Manage the 4Ms (Man, Machine, Material, Method) effectively.

Key Challenges:

  • Managing 6-9 production lines across all shifts (A, B, C).
  • Handling manpower shortage and operator absenteeism.
  • Quickly solving machine or line issues.
  • Achieving daily production targets on time.
  • Maintaining consistent product quality.
  • Managing process abnormalities during production.
  • Training and upskilling operators regularly.
  • Coordinating with other departments for smooth operations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Diploma or B. Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or relevant field
  • 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment
  • Strong team management, team coordination and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, and quality systems
  • Ability to work in rotational shifts (including night shifts) and handle shopfloor responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
