Planning And Qa Qc Engineer

Role & responsibilities

1. Project Monitoring & Quantification

Study drawings, BOQs, and technical documents of all ongoing projects (building works, bridges, railway tenders, etc.).

Prepare quick calculations of required quantities (cement, steel, aggregates, shuttering, sand, etc.) for each stage of work.

Cross-check site-reported quantities against approved drawings and tender provisions.

Ensure accuracy in volume/area calculations for concrete works, earthworks, masonry, reinforcement, etc.

2. Progress Tracking & Reporting

Monitor daily/weekly/monthly progress reports submitted by site engineers.

Compare executed works with planned schedule and DPRs (Daily Progress Reports).

Flag delays, over-consumption, or under-utilization of resources.

Prepare concise head office reports showing physical progress, material status, and percentage completion.

3. Material Monitoring & Consumption Control

Maintain a central register of material stocks for all sites (cement, steel, aggregates, etc.).

Track incoming vs. consumed materials to ensure balanced utilization.

Verify cement bag reconciliations and steel cutting/bending schedules to detect wastage.

Raise alerts in case of abnormal consumption beyond theoretical requirements.

4. Coordination & Verification

Coordinate with site engineers to ensure material requests match actual site requirements.

Cross-verify bills, subcontractor claims, and purchase requests with engineering calculations.

Provide technical guidance on grades of materials, specifications, and usage standards.

Liaise with procurement team for timely supply chain planning.

5. Documentation & Compliance

Maintain drawing-based quantity records and update regularly.

Prepare material consumption statements for management review.

Ensure quality and grade compliance of materials (e.g., cement type, steel grade).

Support audits by keeping traceable calculation sheets and reconciliations.

Preferred candidate profile

3-5 years of experience in quantity surveying, estimation, and project monitoring.

Exposure to buildings, bridges, or railway projects.

Practical experience in material consumption monitoring (cement, steel, aggregates).

Technical Skills

Strong in AutoCAD (reading drawings, extracting quantities).

Proficient in MS Excel (formulas, pivot tables, dashboards).

Knowledge of quantity surveying methods, estimation techniques, and standard codes (IS Codes, IRC, Railway standards).

Familiar with construction materials and grade specifications (cement, steel, aggregates).

Other Competencies

Good at quick mental calculations and cross-verifying site reports.

Strong analytical and reporting skills.

Integrity in reporting (critical for cost and material control).

Ability to coordinate with site teams, purchase, and management.
