Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

• Permit Specialist are responsible for managing the process of obtaining permits. The role demands a thorough understanding of municipal, state, and federal permitting regulations and direct coordination with permitting authorities, engineering teams, and construction crews.

• Permit Specialists ensure that all documentation is complete, compliant with jurisdictional standards, and submitted within deadlines to avoid project delays. They track permit statuses, resolve application issues, and proactively engage with agencies and internal stakeholders to facilitate smooth approval processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and submit permit applications for aerial, underground, and wireless telecom infrastructure (e.g., fiber-optic lines, poles, small cells).
  • Interpret and apply knowledge of permitting rules, zoning laws, and construction codes (e.g., ROW, DOT, NEPA, NESC).
  • Track and manage permit statuses across multiple jurisdictions and update internal systems (e.g., GIS databases, Polaris, Excel trackers).
  • Coordinate with local agencies, municipalities, DOT offices, and utility owners to ensure timely approvals.
  • Identify missing documents, application errors, or compliance gaps and resolve them quickly.
  • Read and interpret workprints/design SOW/Aerial OCALC/ fielding, construction drawings and engineering documents related to permit scope.
  • Maintain organized records of permits, submittals, revisions, comments, approvals, and fees.
  • Support project timelines by ensuring all required permits are received before scheduled construction.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, field engineers, OSP designers, and construction supervisors.
  • Monitor jurisdictional requirements and update internal processes when codes or rules change.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience: 3-5+ years in telecom permitting (OSP, wireless, fiber).

• Education: Diploma minimum; technical or associate degree preferred.

Technical Skills:

• Permit systems (e.g., Polaris, Accela, Salesforce) and official portals; should know how to submit the applications along with the requirements

• Microsoft Excel, GIS mapping, and basic AutoCAD

• Know how to fetch the jurisdictional requirements and permitting details

• Understanding of design/workprints/OCALC, construction drawings, ROW access, Jurisdictional boundaries

Soft Skills:

• Detail-oriented, proactive communicator

• Strong documentation and follow-through abilities

• Comfortable navigating regulatory environments

• Able to work independently and under pressure
