Job Overview

The Payroll Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all payroll activities and statutory deductions are fully compliant with Indian labor laws and tax regulations, including EPF, ESI, PT, and TDS. The role involves managing end-to-end payroll compliance, statutory payments, filing returns, maintaining accurate records, and keeping up to date with regulatory changes to avoid penalties. The incumbent will also act as a liaison with government authorities, handle employee payroll queries, and support internal and external audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Payroll Compliance:

    Manage full-cycle payroll compliance, including salary calculations, attendance, leave, reimbursements, and deductions.
  • Statutory Compliance:

    Ensure adherence to all relevant Indian labor and tax laws such as EPF, ESI, Professional Tax (PT), and TDS.
  • Statutory Filings:

    Prepare, review, and submit monthly and annual statutory returns for PF, ESI, PT, and Labour Welfare Fund (LWF).
  • Record Keeping:

    Maintain accurate and updated payroll data, including salary structures, deductions, benefits, and employee master records.
  • Regulatory Liaison:

    Coordinate with government departments during audits, inspections, and assessments.
  • Employee Support:

    Address and resolve employee payroll-related queries regarding salaries, tax deductions, and statutory contributions.
  • Internal Audits:

    Conduct regular internal payroll compliance checks to ensure accuracy and adherence to current regulations.
  • Knowledge Management:

    Stay informed about legislative updates in Indian labor and tax laws, and communicate relevant changes to internal teams and stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience:

    Minimum 3+ years of experience in Indian payroll processing and statutory compliance.
  • Knowledge:

    Strong understanding of Indian labor laws, statutory components (EPF, ESI, PT, TDS), and payroll processes.
  • Technical Skills:

    Proficiency in payroll management systems and HRIS platforms.
  • MS Excel Expertise:

    Advanced knowledge of Excel for payroll analysis and reporting.
  • Attention to Detail:

    High level of accuracy in data handling and compliance documentation.
  • Communication:

    Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordination with employees, management, and government authorities.
  • Problem-Solving:

    Analytical skills to investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies or compliance issues.
  • Organizational Skills:

    Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
