Job Description

Job Summary:

The Payment Posting & Audit Specialist is responsible for accurately posting payments, adjustments, and denials into the NextGen system, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and payer guidelines. This role also involves auditing payment transactions to identify discrepancies, prevent revenue leakage, and maintain financial integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Post patient and insurance payments, adjustments, and refunds in NextGen accurately and timely.
  • Reconcile daily deposits with posted payments to ensure accuracy.
  • Audit payment batches for errors, missing information, or incorrect allocations.
  • Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies, including underpayments and overpayments.
  • Generate and review payment audit reports to ensure compliance with payer contracts.
  • Collaborate with billing and collections teams to resolve posting issues.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all payment activities and audit findings.
  • Assist in month-end closing and financial reporting related to payment posting.
  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA and organizational confidentiality standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience:

    Minimum 23 years in payment posting and auditing within a healthcare or revenue cycle environment.
  • System Knowledge:

    Hands-on experience with

    NextGen

    EHR/PM system.
  • Strong understanding of insurance payment processes, EOBs, and remittance advice.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Medical Billing & Coding or Revenue Cycle Management.
  • Experience with multiple payer types (Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial).
