Job Description – Patient Counsellor (Eye Hospital)

Position Summary:
The Patient Counsellor will be responsible for guiding patients and their families about eye care treatments, surgical procedures, and hospital services. The role focuses on providing emotional support, clear communication, and ensuring patient satisfaction throughout their journey in the hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

• Counsel patients on diagnosis, treatment options, and surgical procedures related to eye care (e.g., cataract, LASIK, retina, glaucoma).
• Explain pre-operative and post-operative instructions clearly to patients and their families.
• Provide guidance on hospital facilities, billing, and insurance processes.
• Assist patients in understanding doctors’ advice and resolving their queries.
• Offer emotional support to anxious patients and help them make informed decisions.
• Educate patients on eye health, medication usage, and follow-up care.
• Maintain counselling records and ensure patient confidentiality.
• Coordinate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and hospital staff for smooth patient flow.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Graduate in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Optometry, or related field.
• Prior experience in patient counselling, preferably in an eye hospital/clinic.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills (multilingual preferred).
• Compassionate, empathetic, and patient-focused attitude.

Ability to explain medical terms in simple language to patient.
