Job Description

Senior Progress OpenEdge Developer

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, enhance, and maintain applications using Progress OpenEdge (ABL/4GL).
Perform system analysis, debugging, and performance optimization.
Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to understand functional requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Lead and mentor junior developers, providing guidance on best practices and coding standards.
Integrate OpenEdge applications with external systems (APIs, ESBs, or middleware).
Perform database design, optimization, and maintenance on Progress RDBMS.
Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment activities.
Contribute to modernization initiatives (microservices, REST APIs, UI frameworks, database migration, etc.).
Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and performance standards.

Required Skills & Experience

Strong proficiency in
Progress OpenEdge ABL/4GL
programming.
Hands-on experience with
Progress RDBMS
, database schema design, and performance tuning.
Solid understanding of
object-oriented concepts
and structured programming within OpenEdge.
Experience in
RESTful web services, APIs, or SOAP integrations
.
Familiarity with
DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and version control (Git, SVN, etc.)
.
Knowledge of
UI/UX frameworks
(WebSpeed, Angular, React, or similar) is a plus.
Exposure to
modernization projects
(e.g., microservices, PostgreSQL migration, cloud deployment) preferred.
Strong problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and leadership skills to work with distributed teams.

Nice-to-Have

Experience in financial services domains.
Knowledge of ESB frameworks (e.g., Apache Camel, MuleSoft).
Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools like Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps.
