Job Summary

A GNM / ANM nurse at a health camp has diverse responsibilities focused on delivering primary, preventive, and promotive healthcare services to the community under the supervision of a medical officer. A GNM / ANM job description involves providing comprehensive patient care, including assessing needs, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, assisting doctors, maintaining records, and educating patients/families, across settings like hospitals, community health centers, and homes, focusing on direct care, health promotion, and specialized roles like midwifery or geriatric care, ensuring safety, hygiene, and compassionate support

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

Clinical Support and Nursing Care

Assisting Medical Officers:
Support doctors during outpatient department (OPD) consultations and various medical procedures.
Providing First Aid and Treatment:
Administer first aid, perform wound dressing, manage minor injuries and illnesses, and respond to medical emergencies.
Administering Medications:
Safely administer prescribed medications, injections, and IV fluids, following the "Six Rights" of medication administration.
Monitoring Patient Health:
Take and record patients vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, SpO , etc.) and report any significant changes to the medical team.
Infection Control:
Maintain hygiene and implement infection control protocols within the camp environment.

Administering prescribed medications, injections, dressings, and monitoring for reactions.

Observing and recording vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and reporting changes.

Maintaining accurate, detailed patient records and reports.

Working with doctors and other healthcare professionals for coordinated care.

Adhering to infection control protocols, maintaining a clean environment, and ensuring patient safety.

Teaching patients and families about health management, disease prevention, and self-care.

Acting promptly and effectively in emergencies.

Patient Care:

Direct bedside care, personal hygiene, assisting with mobility, managing elimination needs (bedpans/urinals).
Coordination and Community Outreach
Team Collaboration:
Coordinate effectively with the medical officer, lab technician, pharmacist, and local community health workers (like ASHA and Anganwadi workers) for seamless service delivery.
Community Mobilization:
Participate in outreach activities, mobilize community members to attend the camp, and help organize health awareness drives.
In essence, the GNM nurse is a frontline healthcare provider in a health camp, bridging the gap between clinical care and community needs by combining direct patient care with essential public health initiatives and administration.
Referral Linkages:
Ensure proper documentation and coordination for referring patients to nearby health facilities for secondary or specialized treatment when necessary.
