Network Security Engineer

The Firewall Engineer II is an experienced, highly skilled, and hands-on firewall engineering professional who operates as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Frontier Firewall Engineering team. This role is responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, security, and performance of Frontiers firewall infrastructure.

The Firewall Engineer II will work on the full lifecycle of firewall management—including installation, configuration, hardening, troubleshooting, optimization, and 24x7 monitoring and operational support. The engineer will also collaborate closely with cross-functional IT teams, security operations, and network engineering to enforce security policies and uphold Frontier’s cybersecurity posture.

Key Responsibilities

Firewall Administration & Operations

Manage, maintain, and support Frontier’s enterprise firewall platforms, ensuring continuous availability and optimal performance.

Perform firewall installation, upgrades, configuration, and hardware/software maintenance.

Conduct firewall policy creation, modification, rule optimization, and cleanup to maintain secure and efficient access control.

Implement industry-standard hardening practices across firewall systems to safeguard the environment.

Monitoring & Incident Response

Provide 24x7 monitoring, alert response, and incident troubleshooting using firewall management and SIEM tools.

Analyze and resolve firewall-related security alerts, outages, bottlenecks, and connectivity issues in a timely manner.

Partner with SOC and NOC teams to investigate threats, mitigate risks, and support security incident response.

Security Compliance & Governance

Enforce security standards, policies, and procedures across all firewall environments.

Conduct regular audit reviews of firewall rules, configurations, and logs to maintain compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.

Participate in vulnerability assessments and remediation efforts related to perimeter security technologies.

Project Implementation & Engineering Support

Lead and support firewall engineering tasks for new initiatives, data center migrations, cloud integrations, and network expansions.

Collaborate with network architects and security teams to design secure network architectures.

Support change management processes, including documentation, approvals, and post-implementation validation.

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

Create and maintain detailed documentation for firewall configurations, operational procedures, network diagrams, and troubleshooting guides.

Mentor junior engineers and provide SME-level expertise to internal technical teams.

Contribute to continuous improvement of firewall processes, standards, and automation initiatives.
