Mortgage Underwriter - Quality

As a U.K. Mortgage Underwriter at one of the Top MNCs, your primary responsibility will be to assess and underwrite mortgage applications while ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory standards. You will need to have expertise in the 4 Cs of underwriting Credit, Capacity, Collateral, and Capital. Your role will involve taking ownership of mortgage applications from initial submission through to offer, providing a seamless service to brokers and partners. You will be responsible for reviewing and screening residential owner-occupied and buy-to-let mortgage applications, ensuring the correct packaging requirements are set based on the customer and application type. Anticipating the needs of the underwriter, you will assess risks, interpret lending policy, and ensure data accuracy by identifying and correcting inaccuracies in customer information, property portfolios, and income details. Meeting and exceeding set SLAs at each touchpoint and managing all mortgage documents and supporting information will be crucial aspects of your job. You will also be responsible for conducting customer due diligence, including document assessment and validation, proof of ID, proof of address checks, and adherence to CDD policies to prevent fraud and ensure compliance with anti-money laundering regulations. Having a strong technical knowledge of mortgage origination systems and supporting systems, as well as understanding system rules and affordability calculators, will enable you to make informed decisions that align with bank risk appetite. Adhering to Standard Operating Procedures and continuously reviewing and improving processes to enhance the customer experience will be key elements of your role. Your expertise in both residential and commercial lending, particularly in the UK market, will be valuable in supporting the successful progression of mortgage applications and prioritizing work to meet service KPIs. By identifying and reviewing changes to SOPs and implementing improvement ideas, you will contribute to enhancing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the underwriting process.,
