Job Description

Welder is a skilled tradesperson who joins metal parts together using heat and pressure, creating strong and durable bonds. They work in various industries, including construction, manufacturing, and shipbuilding, using different welding techniques and equipment to fabricate, repair, and assemble metal structures. Key Responsibilities: Reading and Interpreting Blueprints: Welders must understand technical drawings, specifications, and weld symbols to determine the required welding procedures and dimensions. Preparing Materials: This includes cutting, grinding, and cleaning metal surfaces to ensure proper bonding. Operating Welding Equipment: Welders use various tools like MIG, TIG, and arc welders, as well as cutting torches, to fuse metal components. Performing Welds in Various Positions: Depending on the project, welders may need to weld in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Ensuring Quality and Safety: Welders are responsible for inspecting welds for accuracy and strength, adhering to safety regulations, and maintaining welding equipment. Maintaining Equipment: This includes routine maintenance and repairs on welding machines and tools. Following Safety Procedures: Welders must wear appropriate protective gear, including heat-resistant gloves, masks, and safety shoes, and follow all safety protocols. Working with Other Trades: Welders often collaborate with other tradespeople, such as fabricators, fitters, and supervisors, to complete projects efficiently.
