Mechanical Technician

Key Responsibilities:

1. Equipment Operation & Maintenance

• Operate mechanical lab equipment such as lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, grinders, welding units, CNC machines (if applicable), and testing equipment.
  
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
  
• Maintain calibration and service records for all lab machinery.
  
• Report any major faults or breakdowns to the Lab In-charge promptly.
  

2. Fabrication & Prototyping Support

• Assist in fabrication, fitting, welding, machining, and assembly tasks for student and faculty projects.
  
• Support students during prototyping and model development, ensuring safe and correct usage of tools.
  
• Provide technical guidance in material selection, machine operations, and fabrication methods.
  

3. Laboratory Management

• Ensure the lab is organized, clean, and safe at all times.
  
• Maintain inventory of tools, consumables, raw materials, and request replenishment when needed.
  
• Prepare laboratory setups for practical classes and assist faculty during experiments.
  
• Ensure all safety protocols, PPE usage, and lab regulations are followed.
  

4. Student Support & Safety

• Demonstrate equipment usage to students and supervise their work during practical sessions.
  
• Monitor students working on machines to prevent unsafe practices and accidents.
  
• Provide on-the-spot troubleshooting and technical support during lab sessions.
  

5. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain logbooks for machine usage, maintenance, and student project work.
  
• Assist in preparing lab manuals, safety checklists, and equipment inspection reports.
  
• Support faculty during laboratory audits and accreditation processes.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  
• Minimum 25 years of experience working with mechanical tools, fabrication equipment, or workshop environments (educational or industrial).
  
• Hands-on skills in machining, welding, fitting, and fabrication.
  
• Knowledge of workshop safety standards and safe machine operation.
  
• Ability to support students patiently with good communication skills.
  
• Basic knowledge of CNC and CAD/CAM (preferred but not mandatory).
