Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

pickling lines, cut-to-length (CTL) lines, and slitting lines

Key Responsibilities

1. Equipment Operation & Technical Support

• Provide mechanical expertise for

  Push-Pull Pickling Line

  ,

  CTL line

  , and

  Slitting Line

  operations.
• Monitor equipment performance and ensure proper functioning of:
  
• Levelers, straighteners, and shears
  
• Coilers/uncoilers, loopers, tension stands
  
• Pickling tanks, pumps, acid circulation systems
  
• Slitting heads, tooling, separators, recoilers
  

2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

• Develop and implement

  preventive maintenance schedules

  based on OEM recommendations and operational history.
• Conduct vibration analysis, lubrication routines, alignment checks, and equipment health monitoring.
  
• Maintain spare parts inventory for critical line components.
  

3. Troubleshooting & Breakdown Management

• Diagnose mechanical failures in bearings, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, drives, conveyors, and process rolls.
  
• Lead mechanical repair activities to minimize downtime.
  
• Coordinate with electrical/automation teams during interlinked breakdowns.
  

4. Process Optimization

• Improve productivity, line speed, and product quality by analyzing:
  
• Tension control
  
• Strip tracking
  
• Roll and blade condition
  
• Pickling efficiency and acid flow parameters
  
• Implement corrective actions for reducing scrap, rejections, and unplanned stoppages.
  

5. Installation & Commissioning

• Support installation, alignment, and commissioning of new equipment or line upgrades.
  
• Work with vendors/OEMs on machine modifications and performance improvements.
  

6. Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with

  ISO standards

  , safety regulations, and environmental guidelines (especially acid handling in pickling).
• Conduct safety audits and implement mechanical safeguards on moving equipment.
  

7. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain logs for maintenance activities, downtime analysis, MTTR/MTBF reports, and performance metrics.
  
• Prepare SOPs, Work Instructions, and maintenance manuals.
  

Key Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of

  steel processing equipment

  (pickling, slitting, CTL).
• Expertise in

  mechanical systems

  : hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, bearings, pumps, roll assemblies.
• Ability to read and interpret

  mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and OEM manuals

  .
• Understanding of

  acid systems

  (HCl/Sulphuric), anti-corrosion measures, and ventilation systems.

Qualification & Experience

• B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering

• 6-10 years

  experience in steel processing, rolling mills, service centers, or similar continuous production environments.
