Manager - R&D

Role Overview:

The R&D Manager will lead product design, development, validation, and compliance activities for electrical/electronic products. The role requires strong knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements, advanced engineering practices, product life-cycle management, and cross-functional collaboration. The candidate will be responsible for guiding the engineering team, ensuring product reliability and safety, and driving continuous improvement and cost optimization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead end-to-end product development from concept to production, ensuring adherence to APQP & PPAP standards.
  
• Review and ensure compliance with MSDS, environmental norms, government regulations, and applicable IS standards for product and material handling.
  
• Drive product safety, reliability studies, DFMA, DOE, design simulations, and component calculations.
  
• Develop and maintain all technical documentation such as DVP, FMEA, CTQ, SOPs, and engineering change management.
  
• Ensure product statutory & regulatory compliance for domestic and international markets.
  
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and suppliers to address design feasibility and process optimization.
  
• Implement cost reduction strategies without compromising quality, reliability, or regulatory compliance.
  
• Plan and execute product validation, testing protocols, and risk assessments.
  
• Mentor and guide R&D engineers to enhance functional and technical capabilities.
  
• Lead product and process risk analysis, including DFMEA & PFMEA reviews.
  
• Support audits, customer discussions, and technical presentations.
  

Key Skills:

• Strong understanding of APQP, PPAP, and product certification processes.
  
• Expertise in applicable IS standards and statutory/regulatory requirements.
  
• Proficient in engineering documentation and structured development methodologies.
  
• Hands-on experience with DFMA, DOE, reliability studies, and design simulations.
  
• Knowledge of MSDS, environmental regulations, and material disposal norms.
  
• Ability to perform component calculations and engineering feasibility checks.
  
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  
• Excellent communication, leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional coordination skills.
  
• Capability to manage multiple projects and deliver within timelines.
  

Required Technical Skills:

• MSDS understanding:

  Chemical/material safety, compliance, and documentation.

• APQP & PPAP Documentation:

  Control plans, process flows, PFMEA, PPAP submissions, DVP&R.

• Product Statutory & Regulatory Knowledge:

  Compliance to IS standards, safety protocols, and government regulations.

• Environmental & Govt Regulations:

  Waste, material reuse/disposal, RoHS, WEEE (if applicable).

• Design Tools & Methods:

• DOE (Design of Experiments)
  
• DFMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly)
  
• Design Simulations (thermal, mechanical, electrical simulations—depending on domain)
  
• Reliability engineering methods (MTBF, stress analysis, accelerated life testing)
  

• Component & System Calculations:

  Electrical, electronic calculations based on ECE/EE domain.

• Risk Management:

  DFMEA, PFMEA, product & process hazard analysis.

• Cost Reduction Techniques:

  VA/VE, optimization of materials, design simplification.

• Design for Safety:

  Compliance with product safety norms and risk mitigation techniques.
