Job Description

The Librarian is responsible for managing the school library and its resources to support the academic and recreational reading needs of students and staff. This includes maintaining a well-organized collection, promoting reading habits, and providing research assistance to users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and maintain the library collection, including cataloging, shelving, and inventory management.
  • Assist students and teachers in locating and selecting appropriate resources for study, projects, and reading.
  • Promote reading habits through book displays, reading programs, storytelling sessions, and library activities.
  • Maintain a welcoming and quiet library environment that encourages reading and learning.
  • Develop and implement library policies and rules.
  • Keep records of books issued, returned, overdue, or lost, and manage fines or replacement processes as per school policy.
  • Select, acquire, and recommend new books and materials in consultation with academic staff.
  • Use library management software for cataloging and circulation (e.g., Libsys, Koha).
  • Assist students with reference services and teach basic research and citation skills.
  • Organize reading weeks, author visits, and literary events to enhance student engagement.
  • Maintain digital archives or e-library systems, where applicable.
  • Monitor the condition of books and coordinate repair or replacement when necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to copyright laws and ethical use of information.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Library Science (B.Lib / M.Lib) or Information Science.
  • Minimum 1–3 years of relevant experience in a school or academic library (preferred).
  • Proficiency in library software and digital tools.

  • Strong organizational and cataloging skills.
  • Passion for books, reading, and education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with children and staff in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable using e-resources, databases, and online tools.
  • Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping skills.
  • Patience, discipline, and a service-oriented attitude.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹22,000.00 per month
