Job Description

Role & responsibilities

WE ARE:

ROLE

You will work closely with the General Counsel (Chief Legal Officer) and department heads and align legal practices with business needs, while also reporting on any legal violations or ongoing legal issues, providing timely alerts and follow-ups to leadership.

Mandatory Experience

  • Labour & HR legal (core challenge):
  • Take a part in designing and implementing the employment lifecycle: offers, onboarding, probation, confirmations, exits (resignations & terminations), and full & final settlements.
  • Draft/maintain templates: Offer, Employment/Consulting, Internship, NDA/PIIA, Non-solicit/Non-compete (where enforceable), MSA/SOW for tutors and vendors.
  • Roll out policies: Code of Conduct, POSH (constitute IC; annual filings), Leave & Attendance, Disciplinary, IT/Device & Acceptable Use, Remote-work/Hybrid, Whistleblower, Grievance.
  • Advise managers, team heads, and HR on day-to-day employment matters, ensuring decisions align with law and company policy.
  • Liaise with authorities and regulators on routine matters as required.
  • Stay current with applicable laws and regulatory updates, proactively adapting policies and documents to meet evolving company needs;

Corporate governance & secretarial

  • Assist in corporate governance matters, including drafting, reviewing and refining charter documents (MoA, AoA), SHA, ESOP, and other related documents;
  • Maintain and update charter documents (MOA/AOA), statutory registers, and minute books.
  • Prepare board/shareholder resolutions, consents, and routine approvals.
  • Support share issuances in coordination with.
  • Coordinate work with chartered accountants and auditors..
  • Commercial & Daily Business:
  • Advise teams (marketing, sales, product) on legal matters, ensuring business practices comply with legal frameworks.
  • Draft and review partnership contracts, rental agreements, and other commercial agreements.
  • ADVANTAGE IF YOU HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE
  • Personal Data Protection:
  • Draft, amend, and review terms and conditions, notices, and consents to comply with applicable data protection laws (including India’s DPDP Act, 2023). 
  • Develop and maintain internal registries, instructions, and policies related to data protection.
  • Review and respond to customer claims in compliance with company policies.

Consumer Protection:

  • Draft and amend legal documents for company products, including terms and conditions, consumer protection policies, and related documentation
  • Provide legal advice to colleagues on customer-related issues and claims.
  • Review and respond to customer claims in compliance with company policies.
  • Intellectual Property:
  • Ability to provide assistance on trademark registration;
  • Understanding of copyrights and intellectual property rights; 
  • Draft and review IP clauses, assignment agreements, and licensing arrangements, ensuring ownership and usage rights are clearly documented.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • LL.B. (mandatory). LL.M./Company Secretary or diplomas in labour law/data protection are a plus.
  • 3+ years of post-qualification experience in legal practice, with strong grounding in the field of: Labour Law, Corporate Governance, Commercial law.
  • Working knowledge of Intellectual Property, Customer Protection, and Data Protection frameworks is an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of Indian regulations, substantive and procedural laws.. 
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid mode (primarily remote, with on-site presence in Chennai as needed).
  • Self-driven, adaptable, and collaborative, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Good Analytical and Reasoning Skills.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is essential; proficiency in Tamil and Hindi is highly desirable for coordination with local authorities and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in hybrid mode, mostly from home.

Salary/Compensation:

Based on experience, competitive salary range to be discussed during interviews.
