Roles & Responsibilities

1. Design & Engineering

Create accurate design drawings for wooden boxes, pallets, crates, skids, and custom packaging solutions.

Prepare BOMs, cutting lists, and technical specifications.

Ensure structural strength, load-bearing accuracy, and compliance with export standards (ISPM-15).

Review and approve design changes before release to production.

2. Project Execution

Visit client sites for measurements, technical feasibility, and requirement gathering.

Provide design-based solutions for complex and custom packaging needs.

Coordinate with Production, Sawmill, Stores, and Quality teams for smooth execution of projects.

Support project timelines and resolve technical issues during production.

3. Client Interaction & Technical Support

Understand client packaging requirements and convert them into technical designs.

Present design options, material alternatives, and cost-optimised solutions.

Provide technical support to the Sales/Business Development team during client discussions.

4. Quality & Compliance

Ensure all designs meet internal quality, stability, safety, and load requirements.

Validate first-piece samples and support QC during inspections.

Implement design improvements based on feedback from production and customers.

5. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain design records, revisions, technical documentation, and approval notes.

Prepare design calculations and technical reports where required.

Provide weekly updates on design output and project progress to management.

6. Team Coordination & Development

Guide junior engineers/draftsmen in design and 2D/3D modelling.

Train internal teams (Production/Stores/Sales) on understanding drawings and BOMs.

Assist in standardising design processes, templates, and documentation.

7. Cost Optimisation

Develop material-efficient designs to reduce wood wastage and improve production efficiency.

Suggest alternate materials, sizes, and construction methods for cost savings.

Preferred candidate profile

Strong knowledge of wood packaging design, pallets, crates, industrial boxes.

CAD skills: AutoCAD / SketchUp / SolidWorks (any 2 preferred).

Understanding of load calculations, material strength, and industrial engineering basics.

Ability to work with production teams and solve on-ground technical issues.

Strong communication skills for client interaction and internal coordination.
