Job Description

Key Areas of Responsibilities

Responsible for the monitoring and uptime of all production databases.
Ensures availability, security and integrity of assigned databases.
Estimate PostgreSQL database capacities; develop methods for monitoring database capacity and usage.
Lead efforts to develop and improve procedures for automated monitoring and proactive intervention, reducing any need downtime.
Develop Stored Procedures and Database Triggers in support of application development.
Participate in application development projects and be responsible for the database architecture and design.
Participate in the creation of development, staging, and production database instances, and the migration from one environment to another.
Responsible for developer SQL code review to ensure queries are optimized and tuned to perform efficiently prior to production release.
Responsible for regular backups and recovery of databases. (e. g. , Point-in-time Recovery)
Responsible for regular maintenance on databases (e. g. , Vacuum, Reindexing, Archiving, Replication).
Responsible for pro-active remediation of database operational problems.
Responsible for Query tuning and preventative maintenance.

Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, MIS or related degree and 10 years of relevant experience including database administration, database programming experience or combination of education, training and experience.
8-10 years experience as a hands on PostgreSQL database administrator.
Strong Knowledge on Database Installation, Upgrades and Migration.
Strong Knowledge on applying PostgreSQL Patches and Fixes.
Experience in PostgreSQL database architecture, logical and physical design, automation, documentation, installs, shell scripting, PL/ SQL programming, catalog navigation, query tuning, system tuning, resource contention analysis, backup and recovery, standby, replication, etc.
Strong knowledge of Linux and shell scripting (e. g. , Bash, Perl).
Strong understanding of command line and database server administration.
Good Knowledge of MS SQL Servers
Capacity planning for all aspects of a database system (storage, compute, memory, etc. )
Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work non-standard shift including nights and/or weekend on-call responsibilities
Experience with automation and scripting skills using Perl, Python a strong plus
Strong ITIL principles a plus.
Understanding of networking and connectivity and how it relates to a database environment.
Experience in Financial Services or other regulated industry preferred
ORACLE database administration experience a plus
Good team player. Capable of working under pressure and dynamic environment with minimal supervision
