Lead Software Engineer

The role at Scrapingdog involves working directly with customers to troubleshoot issues, provide solutions, and guide them in effectively using the APIs to ensure quick value realization and smooth conversion into paid customers. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Scrapingdog's API layer using Node.js and Express, as well as optimizing and scaling MongoDB-backed data models for speed and reliability. Implementing job queues, caching layers, credit metering logic, CI/CD pipelines, and managing services on DigitalOcean droplets will also be part of your responsibilities. Improving monitoring, observability, and fault tolerance across the stack and collaborating with different teams for feature development are crucial aspects of the role. Additionally, you will be involved in evolving the architecture to support 10x more scale and usage. To excel in this position, you should have over 3 years of experience in building production-grade backend systems and possess strong expertise in Node.js, Express, and MongoDB. Being comfortable with designing APIs, working across multiple services, and having familiarity with Redis, job queues, rate limiting, and background task processing are essential qualifications. As a problem solver who enjoys working independently and driving projects end-to-end, you should also be pragmatic, fast-moving, and motivated to contribute to a large-scale system. Excellent communication skills are key to interact with customers and translate technical solutions into clear guidance. Hands-on experience with automation tools like n8n or similar platforms is an added advantage.
