Role Overview: Lead Tools Engine Programmer
We are looking for an exceptional
Lead Tools Engine Programmer
with deep expertise in Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5), engine systems, and editor tooling. In this leadership role, you will architect and guide the development of core engine features, pipelines, and internal tools that empower our designers, artists, and engineering teams. You will mentor a team of tools/engine engineers, drive technical direction, and ensure high-quality systems that enable efficient development at scale for mobile and browser platforms.
This is a high-impact, foundational role in shaping the technical backbone of our flagship AAA title.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Lead and mentor a team of tools and engine programmers, ensuring high-quality engineering practices.
Define technical vision, coding standards, and system architecture for engine and tooling efforts.
Collaborate with technical leadership to plan long-term engine, pipeline, and workflow strategy.
Tools Engine Development
Architect, develop, and optimize internal tools, pipelines, and production workflows.
Extend and modify Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5) to meet project-specific requirements.
Develop robust runtime systems, engine modules, and advanced editor utilities.
Create tools that significantly enhance productivity across content, design, and engineering teams.
Performance Optimization
Lead profiling, debugging, and optimization of engine systems across mobile and web.
Improve build processes, asset management pipelines, and editor performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with gameplay, rendering, technical art, backend, and production teams.
Ensure seamless integration and alignment across all technical systems.
Maintain clear documentation for all engine, tools, and pipeline work.
Required Skills Qualifications
7+ years
of professional experience in game engine or tools programming, with 3+ years in a lead or senior role
.
Expert-level proficiency in
C++
and deep understanding of Unreal Engine internals.
Proven experience building tools, editor extensions, custom pipelines, or engine modifications (UE4/UE5).
Strong background in architecture design, system-level programming, and scalable tool development.
Extensive experience with profiling, debugging, and optimizing engine and editor performance.
Solid understanding of multi-platform development, especially
mobile and browser
environments.
Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
Nice-to-Have
Experience designing or leading build automation and CI/CD pipelines.
Exposure to cloud-driven game technologies, WebAssembly, Pixel Streaming, or browser-based runtime systems.
Familiarity with large-scale asset pipelines and distributed production workflows.
Previous experience leading a tools/engine team in a AAA environment.
